Our First Date…
Nate’s point of view: I was coached by Bekki’s friends that I needed to bring her a gift. But it couldn’t be flowers because that was too cliché. So Heather and Nikki took me shopping ..for two reasons-a present and because all I owned was ripped jeans and tie dye (not much has changed). I ended up with a stuffed alligator and a couple of dress shirts and a hat which I still wear and absolutely love and have not washed since the day I bought it haha. Because I was so nervous everyone decided it would be a good idea if we hung out the night before we had our first date. Heather, Bekki, Pete, and I stayed up all night watching Goonies and just having fun. So low and behold neither Bekki or I got any sleep because we were so nervous. Pete made his famous banana pancakes in the morning. Then Bekki and Heather left. I got so nervous that I couldn’t leave my bathroom. So I called my sister Jess and asked her what I should do because I couldn’t leave the bathroom because I was so so nervous plus I was hyperventilating, literally. Jess said she was on her way to give me some of her anti anxiety meds and that I’ll be fine. So I took half of one of her pills and I feel fine and get the courage to drive over. We were going to the Seacoast Rep to see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory the play, which I had pre bought tickets to however neither one of us knew that it was actually a children’s play put on by children. I had been talking to my friends all week about what I should do on a first date and they had given me advice like be a gentleman, open doors, etc. Only the anxiety meds were messing with my depth perception and I was on little sleep so when I went to open the door I completely missed the handle. What a disaster. The funniest part was that one of the actresses misjudged her footing and fell off the stage. The rest of the story gets hazy from here on out. After the play we left, I do not remember going out to eat after-according to Bekki we went to the friendly toast and ate and had the greatest conversations but I honestly don’t remember a thing. I do remember going back to Heather’s and Heather and Bekki were showing pictures to me and next thing I know I woke up in a puddle of drool on the couch. Then when I went to leave Bekki walked me out and she kissed me…I had to pull over on the side of the road on my way home to call Jess to tell her what happened.
Engagement…
Bekki’s Point of View: It was the perfect weekend. We had planned all week to decorate the tree on our front lawn with lights. Only I thought it was never going to happen because it’s one of those things that sounds good in theory, kind of like carving a pumpkin, things you loved to do as a kid that you don’t really do as an adult until you have kids of your own haha. Friday night we saw avatar in 3d and we both adored it which we both thought was funny because we’re always talking about how it’s such a rip off to go to the movies now a days because all new movies that come out are junk. We had just a great feel good time. Saturday we slept in but not too late, just late enough where you don’t miss out on the good productive part of the day. We went grocery shopping and ran some errands, pretty mundane stuff, rewarding all the same. Next was the decorating of the tree. Tom called and said he was home which we were both super excited about but I was joking with Nate and said “ I bet you a million dollars that we’re not going to decorate our tree now” little did I know. So anyway we did end up decorating our tree and when it was all decorated Nate gets all awkward and starts going on about how he wants to do this with me every year and then he got down on one knee and popped open the box and I just laughed and laughed because I was so shocked and of course put the ring on and forgot to even say yes.
